- 1) Verify grade where pool will
be located. Pool elevation must
not finish any higher than 2” below weep screed / mud sill
- 2) Any additional grading for
slopes or?? Standard price includes up to ½ hour pregrade
- 3) Any trash, grass, trees, concrete, patio covers, planter walls to be removed
- 4) Measure access for heavy equipment
- 5) Note any unusual type soil conditions ie: Rock, fill, water tables,
etc.
|
|
3
|
- 6) Measure concrete to be removed
- 7) Is concrete reinforced with
either rebar or wire mesh? Pads
that are cracked but show no visible signs of lifting could be
reinforced
- 8) 10-wheeler dump trucks can
carry about 400 square feet of broken concrete
- 9) Measure “accurately” square
footage of sod. 10 – wheelers can
carry approximately 500 square feet
- 10) Any special requirements to protect walls or brick paving????
- 11) Take digital pictures of back
yard, making paying special attention to any pre existing damage to
concrete, etc.

- 1) Our crews layout with steel
pins and paint the shape on the ground for approval by Project Managers
or Homeowner
- 2) Finish elevation of pool is
established
- 3) Sign off sheet is signed
approving lay out and standard exclusions
- NOTE:
- It is very important that backyards are measured accurately and plans
are properly scaled so we can layout your design

- 1) Pregrade for pool and decks
- 3) Forms are set at top of bond
beam
- 4) Coping sits on top of forms and top of coping is top of deck
- 5) Rule of thumb is figure thickness of coping and set forms 2” lower
than mudsill and thickness of coping
- 6) Per the UBC (Uniform Building Code) Finish elevation of decks and
coping must be min 2” below weep screed / mud sill

- Forms are normally installed with 1” x 3” straight board or 3/16” bender
board for radius pools
- We use 2” square pegs to insure forms don’t get damaged
- Install kickers preferably every 5’ to beef up forms
- Forms are attached with screws for several different reasons. Can raise or lower if necessary and
causes no damage when installing to our stakes
|
|
15
|
- Typical forming with kickers every 6’

- Clients don’t get what they paid for
- Our steel crews rely heavily on forms for size and shape of spa,
elevation of raised bond beams, location of raised bond beams
- Weak forms can be damaged after excavators leave by steel, plumbing and
gunite phases
- Looks bad to customer
- Makes additional work for gunite crew to insure shape and dimensions

- Depth measured off raised bond beam forms
- Dirt for loveseats left too high or low
- Normal is 24” down
from top of forms to finish 18” deep
- Radius does not conform to engineering
- Bond beam not properly dug especially for L.A. City No deck
- Raised bond beams with venner do not get notched
- Excavators take out too much soil from baja entry, steps and seats

- Pools are over excavated 9” to
achieved correct depth
- Examples:
- 3’6” shallow end Dig depth 4.3”
- 5’0” deep end Dig
depth: 5’9”
- 8’0” deep end Dig depth: 8’9”
- NOTE: Sand holes or water tables
should be over excavated to allow for cave ins and insure proper depth
